Earth Friendly Yoga Clothes

You can head to an enormous number of websites and famous apparel companies in order to get your hands on yoga clothes. While many of the articles of clothing are appropriate to the
practice of a variety of yoga styles, many of them are not as earth friendly as they should be.

The reasons that yoga clothes should be earth friendly are fairly simple - yoga is an activity in which balance is the primary goal, and this can be achieved only when the individual is mindful of the world around them, and because good health means wrapping the body in materials that are not dangerous or toxic in any way.

Let's look at that last statement first. The ways that modern fabrics are made can be quite shocking. Even a plain cotton garment can be doused in chemicals that start with the pesticides and herbicides used as the cotton is being grown and finish with the emissions created by the long distance journey it must take to get to the marketplace.

These chemicals pollute ground water and soil and leave the air and environment in poor condition. They can also be so prevalent as to put the wearer at risk to toxic exposure as the chemicals come into contact with their skin. When a woman is working out or moving briskly, as is the case with yoga exercises, the perspiration only enhances the risks.

Remember too that all of the people involved in making the cloth and the actual garments may be at risk for chemical exposure too. This is just bad business, but it is a risk when purchasing yoga clothes of any kind. The way to avoid the risks is to consider the world around you and your connectedness to it.

For example, looking for organic cotton, hemp, bamboo and soy yoga gear is the best way to be sure that no one is exposed to dangerous chemicals. Also insisting that garments are made under ethical standards will usually ensure that no one in the lifecycle of the garment has been put in harm's way either. Being mindful of the garments you wear during yoga will enhance your practice by demonstrating "non-harming" principles, to yourself and to the world.
